Rebar Cut

Plan how to cut your reinforcement from stock bars so that you buy the fewest bars and leave the smallest offcuts.

General Description

Rebar Cut reads the Bar Length of the rebar you select, packs those pieces into stock bars of the length you buy (for example 9 m or 12 m) and shows which pieces go on each stock bar and how much is left over. Every piece shows the parameters you choose, such as Rebar Number, PR-Código or PR-Elemento, so you can locate each bar in the model. The result exports to Excel.

Key Features

  • Works with the built-in Bar Length parameter of each rebar. A rebar set with several bars becomes one piece per bar.
  • Fills each stock bar with the combination of pieces that leaves the smallest offcut, and compares the result with a first-fit packing to keep whichever uses fewer bars.
  • Optimize separately per parameter: bars of different diameters never share a stock bar. Bar Diameter is selected by default and you can pick another parameter.
  • Columns: add, remove and reorder any rebar parameter shown next to each piece. Your choice is remembered.
  • The summary shows the number of stock bars, the total offcut and the theoretical minimum number of bars.
  • Pieces longer than the stock bar, or without a Bar Length, are reported and left out.
  • Export to Excel creates a Cutting plan sheet (every piece with its stock bar, length, element Id and chosen parameters) and a Stock bars sheet (pieces, used length and offcut per bar, with totals).

How to Use

  1. Select the rebar in the model, then click Rebar Cut. If nothing is selected, Revit asks you to pick rebar: Select the rebar to cut, then click Finish.
  2. Enter the Stock length (m). The plan updates as you type.
  3. Keep Optimize separately per parameter on and choose the parameter that must not be mixed (Bar Diameter by default).
  4. In Columns, pick a parameter and click Add to show it next to each piece. Use Remove, the up and down arrows to adjust the list.
  5. Read the result: each stock bar is a group titled with its number, used length and offcut, and the pieces cut from it are listed below.
  6. Click Export to Excel.

Notes

  • The tool does not modify the model.
  • The algorithm is a heuristic, not a proof of optimality. The theoretical minimum shown is a lower bound, so the real minimum can sit between that value and the result.
