QuickSelect - Fast parameter-based selection

QuickSelect speeds up element selection in Revit by using the parameters of a reference element. It is designed to quickly find comparable elements without building complex filters manually.

General Description

The add-in lets users inspect an element, review its parameters, and mark which values should be used as selection criteria. It then applies those rules to select elements from the same category or, if desired, only those visible in the active view.

Usage Procedure

1. Open QuickSelect from the Navigate panel on the Frata ribbon tab.
2. Follow the prompt "Select an element to inspect its parameters" and pick your reference element.
3. Use the search box to find parameters, and check the ones that should drive the match (their current value is shown alongside). Use Toggle favorite on parameters you check often so they surface under Favorites next time.
4. Enable Same category to restrict matches to the reference element's category, and/or Active view only to limit results to what's visible in the current view.
5. Press Select. The result reports how many elements were selected and applies that selection directly in Revit.

Recommendations

• Enable Same category almost always — without it, QuickSelect matches parameter values across every category that happens to share those parameter names, which is rarely what you want.
• Use Active view only when working on a specific area or discipline view so the selection doesn't reach into parts of the model you're not currently looking at.
• Mark your most-used parameters as favorites once, and future QuickSelect sessions on similar elements go faster.

Frequently Asked Questions

I got the message "Check at least one parameter to filter by." Why? You pressed Select without checking any parameter. Check at least one before running the selection.

I got the message "Could not build valid rules from the selected parameters. Check the values." Why? One or more checked parameters have a value QuickSelect can't turn into a matching rule (for example, an unusual data type). Uncheck that parameter or verify its value on the reference element.

Does QuickSelect only match exact parameter values? Yes — each checked parameter becomes a match rule against the reference element's current value. If you need a different comparison, adjust the reference element's value first, or check fewer parameters for a broader match.

Can I reuse the same filter on a different reference element? Not directly — QuickSelect rebuilds parameters from whichever element you pick. Use Favorites so the same parameter names are quick to re-check each time, even though the values come from the new reference element.
