Align Column

Aligns the base or top of structural columns or walls to a picked planar face — no dialog, no manual offset math.

General Description

Align Column is a split button with two commands: Align Base and Align Top. Each one lets you pick one or more structural columns or walls, then pick a target planar face; the tool adjusts the base or top offset of every selected element so it lines up with that face.

Usage Procedure

Align Base

  1. Open Align Base from the Structure panel on the Frata ribbon tab (left side of the Align Column split button).
  2. Follow the prompt: "Select structural columns or walls to align base, then press Finish."
  3. Follow the prompt: "Select a planar face to align element base to."
  4. The base offset of every selected element is adjusted so its bottom aligns to the picked face.

Align Top

  1. Open Align Top from the same split button.
  2. Follow the prompt: "Select structural columns or walls to align top, then press Finish."
  3. Follow the prompt: "Select a planar face to align element top to."
  4. The top offset of every selected element is adjusted so its top aligns to the picked face.

Recommendations

  • The target face can belong to any element (a floor, another column, a reference plane host) as long as it's planar.
  • Run Align Base and Align Top separately — picking a new set of elements each time — since they're independent commands, not steps of one dialog.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I align columns and walls together in the same run? Yes — the selection filter accepts both Structural Columns and Walls in a single pick.

Does this change the column's type or height, or just the offset? Only the base offset (Align Base) or top offset (Align Top) parameter is adjusted — the element's type and other parameters are untouched.

Can I undo the alignment? Yes, standard Revit Undo (Ctrl+Z) reverts it, since each run is a single transaction.
