Solid Rebar - Solid 3D visualization for reinforcement

Makes every rebar in the active 3D view render solid and visible through its concrete host, instead of the default wireframe/hidden look — useful for coordination and clash review.

General Description

Solid Rebar is a split button with two commands: Solid Rebars turns solid, unobscured display on for every reinforcement bar in the active 3D view; UnSolid Rebars reverts them to Revit's standard wireframe/hidden display.

Key Features

  • One click affects the whole view: No need to select rebar first — both commands act on every rebar collected from the active 3D view.
  • Reversible: UnSolid Rebars restores the default appearance at any time.

Requirements

  • Only available on Revit 2023 and earlier. On Revit 2024 and later this button does not appear on the ribbon at all — Revit renamed and restructured the underlying "Solid"/"Unobscured in View" graphic override settings starting in 2024, and this addin has not yet been updated with an equivalent command for those versions.
  • Must be run from a 3D view; running it from a plan, section, or other 2D view has no effect (see FAQ).

Usage Procedure

  1. Switch to the 3D view where you want to review reinforcement.
  2. Open the Solid Rebar split button from the Structure panel on the Frata ribbon tab (Revit 2023 and earlier only).
  3. Choose Solid Rebars to make all reinforcement in that view solid and visible through concrete, or UnSolid Rebars to revert to the default wireframe/hidden look.
  4. Check the confirmation message reporting how many elements were processed.

Recommendations

  • Since both commands act on the whole view rather than a selection, use a dedicated 3D view for this kind of reinforcement review rather than your main working view, so you can toggle it without affecting other views.

Frequently Asked Questions

I'm on Revit 2024 or later and don't see this button. Why? Solid Rebar currently only works on Revit 2023 and earlier — it hasn't been updated yet for the API changes Revit made to rebar display overrides starting in 2024.

I got the message "The active view is not a 3D view." Why? Solid Rebar only works in 3D views. Switch to a 3D view and run the command again.

I got the message "There are no rebar elements to process in the active view." Why? The active 3D view has no rebar elements at all (or they're all filtered out of the view), so there's nothing to change.

Do I need to select rebar before running this? No — both commands act on every rebar element in the active 3D view automatically.
