Host Sync - Synchronize parameters from the host
Host Sync keeps selected parameters aligned between concrete host elements and their associated reinforcement. The tool helps reduce coordination issues by copying key information from the host into the rebar elements.
General Description
The add-in displays the available parameters and lets users define which ones should be synchronized. Once the setup is saved, the selected data can be copied from the structural host into the reinforcement so both remain consistent.
Key Features
- Parameter selection: Choose exactly which values should be synchronized, with a search box to find parameters in long lists.
- Automatic ongoing sync: Once enabled, a Revit updater copies the selected parameter values from host to rebar every time a rebar is created or modified on that host.
- One-time manual copy: A separate "Copy Parameters" action copies values immediately from picked host elements to their rebar, for rebar that already exists.
Requirements
- Works with hosts and rebar categories: Rebar, Area Reinforcement, and Fabric Reinforcement.
Usage Procedure
- Open Host Sync from the Structure panel on the Frata ribbon tab.
- Use the search box to find and check the parameters that should be synchronized.
- Enable Sync with host if you want new or edited rebar to be kept in sync automatically going forward, then press Save. This registers a live updater — no need to reopen the tool after this point for future rebar.
- To sync rebar that already exists in the model, press Copy Parameters and select the host elements to copy from; the tool copies the checked parameter values from each host into its associated rebar immediately.
- Check the status message at the bottom of the window (it's timestamped) to confirm the save or copy succeeded.
Recommendations
- Turn on Sync with host for new work, and use Copy Parameters once to catch up any rebar you modeled before enabling it.
- If a specific rebar shouldn't follow the sync, it has a dedicated "skip host sync" parameter — the tool creates it automatically on the rebar categories the first time sync is enabled.
Frequently Asked Questions
What's the difference between "Save" and "Copy Parameters"? Save turns the automatic, ongoing sync on or off (via a Revit updater) for future rebar creation/edits. Copy Parameters is a one-time action that copies values right now, from host elements you pick, into their existing rebar — use it to catch up rebar that already existed before you turned sync on.
Does enabling sync affect rebar that already exists? No — the updater only reacts to rebar being created or modified going forward. Use Copy Parameters for a one-time pass over existing rebar.
Can I exclude a specific rebar from the automatic sync? Yes — Host Sync adds a "skip host sync" parameter to the rebar categories; set it on a specific bar to exclude it from the automatic updater.
